BOOK REVIEW: Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo

10194157“I've been waiting for you a long time, Alina" He said. "You and I are going to change the world.”
SYNOPSIS: Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.             Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.          Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.
I got high hopes on this one.  Honestly before I bought a copy of this book I really research  some backgrounds about the plot and if it really will satisfy my brain. The research turned out to be ok and so I grab a copy.
The book is all about this world where what do you call this? Magic? or Alchemy is practiced. It gives you a feel of Sara Mass Throne of Fire but with more Fantasy- magicy angst. Swords, horses and magics seems awesome right?

The book started very promising and as I turn from a page to another it slowly turns the whole mood into this shallow slowly pace plot. I really had a hard time reading this book at the beginning because I never saw originality and unique style of writing from the author. It made me feel like I am reading a book written by someone during third grade or something. As the story progress so are the disappointments but it didnt take that long for the book to redeem itself. The story improved at the middle till the end and I dont want to spoil some details about it.

This book just lacks details of the concept of this magic thingy an so are some spices that will give flavors to the twist that was obviously predictable. I really like the ending though. I will still read the next book but I will just lower my expectations.

Btw the love story sucks. A lot of awkward moments.
