Book Review: Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

This book is like watching a woman giving birth to a three-headed dragons. It is just mind blowing. You cannot stop yourself appreciating the main character Eelyn, for how bad-ass she is.

“We find things, just as we lose things. If you’ve lost your honor, you’ll find it again.”

This is a young adult fantasy fiction that follows the main character Eelyn, an Aska woman. The Aska tribe has been at war with the Riki tribe since the beginning, but one day, during their every 5 year clan war, Eelyn saw her brother, whom she thought is dead five years ago, fighting with the enemies.
SYNOPSIS: Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield — her brother, fighting with the enemy — the brother she watched die five years ago.
Faced with her brother's betrayal, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan thought to be a legend, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.
She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend, who sees her as a threat. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and family while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.
This book will give you a Norse mythology flavor mixed with religious and ethnic beliefs that will surely tingle your thoughts. This book is packed with action and thrill that you can't stop turning pages. The characters were great, the plot was on point, the story was well-directed and the writing style was purely fantastic.

The world building was really precise, brief and fast. It will hook you right at the first page. This is a page turner book that gives the readers cold, bloody and fiery feels. The characters were well built. All were explored and was portrayed with the perfect amount of words. You will surely love some of them as the personalities of these characters felt so real. Their existence were not forced and they were surely are memorable.

The plot was very fast. There are no dragging parts in this book. You can surely finish the three hundred pages with one sitting. The plot was unique and was not all over the place. It was not predictable and was not also a pain in the head. The plot was simply on-point. Just exactly what is needed to excite and amaze the readers. I found it well-delivered and executed.

The writing style was good for a new comer. The author delivered the words with ease and as you read them, they sound natural. You will not surely find any hard to read parts. You will find some Norse inspired terms interesting. The story was well-directed. It was not lame and cringe and the entire book was just perfectly constructed into a very solid and explosive world of vikings, snow, culture, love, family and violence.

This is definitely one of my favorite reads so far this year and I surely recommend this to everyone.
