In THE BATTLEMAGE, after Fletcher, Sylva, Othello, Cress, and Alice escape from the Orcs into the ether with their demons, they know the danger is far from over. They've landed in the parallel world full of the demons and won't be able to stay alive in the noxious gases without a steady supply of special plant petals they discovered at the Orcs' temple. Unless the ether is much smaller than they think, they'll need to find more petals before they get to an exit portal on the Hominum side -- if they can find one. Also, predators lurk all around: both the larger demons of the ether and the Orcs who cross over into the ether to try to recapture them, flying on their giant Wyverns. The odds of Fletcher and friends making it out of the ether are not good, but what awaits them back home drives them on. The big war with the Orcs rages on, and everyone is needed at the front lines. And Fletcher has offered a new home to the villagers of his hometown in the long-abandoned estate of Raleighshire, the family home he only just learned was his. He needs to train up soldiers to defend it before the Orcs invade.

Review:
I am very disappointed with this book!
I really loved the first two books of the series-- those books blew me away. The way the second book ended--bar raised so high-- these book came flat and did not give justice to how good the first two books were. Out of the three, this one is the worst.

This book felt so rushed. Like the author wrote this with a gun pointed in his head and might blew his brain off if he cannot beat the deadline. SPOILER ALERT! The first part felt like lost chapters of the second book-- the chapters after those--felt unwanted. I was really lost at the middle of the book. The second book, The Inquisition, blew my mind and set the progress of the story way up in the sky but this book just pulled all those excitement back down to hell. I mean I was really pissed that the author decided to write things on how to rebuild a colony when the last part of the second book are ancient demons, dragons and millions of goblin eggs squashed by magic and likes.

I am so disappointed. Setting aside the expectations due to how epic the recent book in this series are, the plot just felt flat and lame. A lot of things happened in this book where so predictable. Some of the characters felt like they were not the characters I knew on the first two books. I felt that some of the characters lost their voices or undergone "change of personality" treatment. The magic of the first two books were not seen on this book. I mean some of the basic elements were there but instead of improving these elements-- this book just ruined them and made them bad.

I really have high hopes in this book. Sadly, the bar was not met. This book did not really connect to me. I really love the series. I was a fan after reading the second book. I was rooting for this one, but it failed me. The book was so rushed in the end and the plot have dragging parts that I cringed. The author ruined the series through how he crafted this third book. The magic was pale and even though the action was there-- I still feel like this book ran out of passion- ran out of magic. The mere fact that the second book presented a very interesting political element--these book neglected to improve those element, what is worst? This book just pretended to not see those elements and decided to scrub it off by just killing some characters, putting some enemies in the prison and many other lame and overused formulas of how to write a predictable and lame story.
