There is no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwaba young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.

Reading Progress:
I'm on page 113 of 464 of This Savage Song: I have mixed reactions for this book so far. I am expecting that this book will blow my mind as what the reviews said. So far, it is not living to my expectations. I like how the author builds the world though and the character are not that bad. I just feel that this will really be an over hyped book---- please be epic.

I'm on page 261 of 464 of This Savage Song: I get to fully grasp the entire world of the novel. It is very dark and cold. Victoria made a world that will creep into your veins and make you feel hallow. Cheers to the plot but I am not yet blown away. My expectations are not yet met. I started to hate one of characters. I have a lot of things/theories of how the story will end--- hope I am wrong. This book has a potential to be predictable (please don't).

Review:
I expected to much from this book. That expectations back fired. This book was hyped in the Vlog community and that is where I discovered this piece. I have high expectations from Victoria Schwab after hearing how awesome her style in writing is. This is the first novel that I have read from her.

This book is not bad. It is actually good. But I was just sad that it failed to blow my mind (as what I expected). The book is dark, haunting and very entertaining. The plot has a potential to be epic but sadly it was not played or utilized fully and it fell flat for me. I was really expecting it could have been something epic or mind blowing.

I really love the characters. I really connected to them all through out the book. They felt real and well crafted. I also love the world. Victoria made a world that is so dark and haunting. While I was reading the book I really felt that I am under a vast grey clouds-- wet from the rain and imprisoned in a hollow empty and cold jail. This book is very entertaining with the right amount of action and drama.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I will definitely read the second installment. Even though my expectations was not met, I was still satisfied on what the book delivered and will definitely recommend this to my friends.
